Suicide ranks in the top 10 causes of death for Americans. In the United States, a person has a 50% greater chance of dying by suicide than homicide. Each year in the United States, over 35 thousand people commit suicide and Emergency Room visits for self inflicted injury not resulting in death number well over 500 thousand, possibly twice that number as many people are reluctant to admit that they attempted suicide.
